Daniel Anthony's Early Life and Inspiration
Daniel Anthony was born on 4 October 1987 in Quinton, Birmingham. When he was young, he was quite shy. To help him become more outgoing, his mom sent him to a drama club in South London.
Daniel loved acting right away! Soon, a talent agency noticed his skills and signed him up. He says that Will Smith's acting in the TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990–1996) made him want to become an actor.
Daniel Anthony's Acting Career
Daniel started acting when he was a child actor. He performed in many famous West End musicals. These included the first show of The Lion King (1999), where he played young Simba. He was also in Sam Mendes's new version of Oliver! (1994) at the London Palladium.
On stage, he played Curtis Younger in A Raisin in the Sun (2001). He also played Pip in Moby-Dick (2006). In 2003, he used his voice to play Will Parry in a BBC Radio 4 show of the His Dark Materials books.
His early TV roles included JJ in EastEnders (2004). He was also Lex Keavey in Doctors (2006). For his role in Doctors, he was nominated for a British Soap Award. He was considered for "Best Newcomer" and "Villain of the Year."
Later, he appeared as a tough guy in the ITV show Demons (2009). He played Jack in the BBC film Rules of Love (2010). This film was about a boy from a tough neighborhood and a girl from a fancy boarding school.
From 2013 to 2014, Daniel was a regular on the medical drama Casualty. He played Jamie Collier, who was the nephew of another character, Jeff. Daniel said his character was "the calm one, the voice of reason." In 2021, he joined the UK tour of Magic Goes Wrong as Mickey.
Starring in The Sarah Jane Adventures
Daniel Anthony was a main actor in The Sarah Jane Adventures from 2007 to 2011. This show was a spin-off from Doctor Who. He played the character Clyde Langer.
Daniel described Clyde as "the joker of the group." He said Clyde "always has an answer for everything, even though 99% of the time it was probably wrong!" Daniel really enjoyed playing a funny character like Clyde.
He also read the audiobook Children of Steel (2011) for The Sarah Jane Adventures. In 2020, he briefly played Clyde again in a mini-episode called "Farewell, Sarah Jane." This was a special tribute to Elisabeth Sladen, who played Sarah Jane.
In 2022, it was announced that Daniel would be in a new audio show. It's called Beyond Bannerman Road: Rani Takes on the World. This show continues the story 15 years after The Sarah Jane Adventures ended. It focuses on Daniel's character, Clyde, and Anjli Mohindra's character, Rani.
Daniel has also done other audio work for Doctor Who. He played Delong in "Wirrn Dawn" (2009). He was also Julian Delaware in the Torchwood audio story "The Law Machines" (2018). In 2023, Daniel played Clyde Langer again in Tales of the TARDIS.
