How the DBU Started

Yearly Football Awards
The DBU gives out awards each year to the best players from Denmark's national teams. There is an award for the best senior player. There are also awards for the best players in three of the DBU's youth teams.
Player of the Year
Since 1963, the DBU has given out the Danish Player of the Year award. Danish players vote for who wins this award. For a long time, only players in Denmark could win. Even after players started getting paid in 1978, players in foreign clubs could not win. In 1983, the award was opened to all Danish players, no matter where they played. Morten Olsen was the first player to win when all Danish players were included. The player with the most wins is Brian Laudrup, who won four times (in 1989, 1992, 1995, and 1997).
Young Players of the Year
The Young Players of the Year Awards are supported by Arla Foods. These awards were first called "the Milk Talent Awards" to promote dairy products. Later, DBU found a new sponsor, DONG (now DONG Energy). But Arla continued to sponsor the prize, which was renamed "the Arla Talent Awards" in 2005.
Equal Pay for National Teams
Before the start of EURO 2024, the Danish players' union, Spillerforeningen, made a new agreement with the DBU. This agreement means that the men's and women's national teams will now get the same pay and conditions when they play in tournaments. The men's team even turned down a pay raise to help make this happen. Now, both teams are paid equally for playing for their country.
