Danish Kaneria (born 16 December 1980) is a former Pakistani cricketer. He played for the Pakistan national cricket team from 2000 to 2010. Danish was a right-arm leg spinner, a type of bowler who spins the ball. He could also bowl a "googly," which is a special delivery that spins the opposite way.
Kaneria played 61 Test matches for Pakistan. He took 261 wickets, which means he got 261 opposing batsmen out. He was the second Hindu player to represent Pakistan in international cricket. His cousin, Anil Dalpat, was the first. Overall, he was the seventh non-Muslim player for Pakistan.
He also played in 18 One Day International (ODI) matches. In these games, he took 15 wickets. Kaneria never played Twenty20 International matches (T20I) for Pakistan. He also played a lot of domestic cricket in Pakistan and for Essex County Cricket Club in England.

Early Life and Education
Danish Kaneria was born in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. His birthday is on December 16, 1980. His parents are Prabhashankarbhai Laljibhai Kaneria and Babita Prabhashankarbhai Kaneria. People sometimes called him "Danny" or "Nani-Danny."
He went to school at the Government Islamia College in Karachi. He also attended St. Patrick's High School, Karachi. Danish is a Hindu and his family is from the Gujarati ethnic group. His ancestors moved to Karachi from Surat over 100 years ago.
Danish Kaneria's Cricket Journey
Playing for Teams in Pakistan
Kaneria started his first-class cricket career in 1998. He played for many different teams in Pakistan. These included National Shipping Corporation, Karachi Whites, and Habib Bank Limited cricket team (HBL). He also played for Karachi and Sindh cricket team.
He played 206 first-class matches. In these games, he took 1,024 wickets. This is a very impressive number! He also scored 1,918 runs, with his highest score being 65 runs. His last first-class match was in February 2012.
Kaneria also played 167 List A (LA) matches. He took 262 wickets in these games. His best bowling in LA cricket was seven wickets for 39 runs. He also scored 379 runs, with a top score of 64 runs.
He played 65 Twenty20 (T20) matches between 2005 and 2012. He took 87 wickets in T20 games. His best T20 bowling was four wickets for 22 runs.
International Test Career
Danish Kaneria made his international debut in November 2000. He was 19 years old when he played his first Test match against England. In his second year, he took six wickets in an innings twice against Bangladesh. He took 12 wickets in that match, which helped Pakistan win. He was named "man of the match" for his excellent performance.
Later, against Bangladesh, he had his best bowling performance in an innings. He took seven wickets for 77 runs. In 2003, he took seven wickets against South Africa. This also earned him a "man of the match" award.
In 2004, he took ten wickets against Sri Lanka. He bowled so much that his finger started bleeding! His performance helped Pakistan win again. In 2005, he took eight wickets against Australia. Even though Pakistan lost, Australian cricket legend Shane Warne praised Kaneria's bowling.
Kaneria played an important role in Pakistan's Test wins. He took seven wickets against New Zealand in 2009. This was his fourth time taking seven wickets in an innings.
His Test career lasted almost ten years. He played 61 matches and took 261 wickets. He is the Pakistani spin bowler with the most wickets in Test cricket. He is also the fourth highest wicket-taker for Pakistan overall, after Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Imran Khan.
One Day International Matches
Kaneria played his first One Day International (ODI) match in October 2001 against Zimbabwe. He played 18 ODIs for Pakistan. In these matches, he took 15 wickets. His best bowling in ODIs was three wickets for 31 runs against New Zealand in 2003.
He played in two matches during the 2007 Cricket World Cup. These were against the West Indies and Zimbabwe. The match against Zimbabwe was his last ODI for Pakistan.
Playing in England
Danish Kaneria also played for Essex County Cricket Club in England. He played for them in the English County Championship from 2004 to 2010. He did very well there, taking 32 wickets in seven matches in 2005. In 2007, he took 107 wickets for Essex across all types of games.
In 2008, he broke a finger while trying to catch a ball. This injury meant he missed the rest of the 2008 season in England.
Personal Life
Danish Kaneria is a Hindu and belongs to the Gujarati community. He is married to Dharmita Kaneria. They have two children together.
His cousin, Anil Dalpat, was also a famous Pakistani cricketer. Anil was a wicket-keeper.
