Writing and Activism
Danny's first play, Black Superhero, opened in March 2023. It was performed on the main stage at the Royal Court Theatre. Danny played the lead role in his own play. The story is about an actor in London who is out of work. He is in love with his married friend, who is a big Hollywood superhero star. The Independent newspaper called the play a "funny and unflinching exploration of black masculinity".
In 2014, Danny noticed that a TV drama trailer did not show any Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic (BAME) actors. This made him want to make a change. He gathered some friends and colleagues, including actors Ruth Wilson and Daniel Evans. Together, they started the Act for Change project. Their goal was to make sure that the UK arts industry includes everyone. This means people of all races, genders, social backgrounds, and abilities.
The first public event for Act for Change was a sold-out discussion. It was led by Baroness Shami Chakrabarti. Many important people from the arts industry attended this event at London's Young Vic Theatre.
