From Mechanic to Biking Legend
Danny MacAskill grew up in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. For over 12 years, he spent hours every day practicing his bike skills. Before becoming a famous cyclist, he worked as a bike mechanic. He eventually quit his job to focus on riding full-time.
A YouTube Sensation
In April 2009, everything changed for Danny. He and his roommate, Dave Sowerby, uploaded a five-minute video to YouTube. The video showed Danny doing incredible bike stunts all over Edinburgh. It quickly went viral and got attention from news outlets around the world. This video, set to the song "The Funeral" by Band of Horses, launched his career.
After his first video, Danny appeared in a music video for the band Doves and in a TV commercial. He was no longer just a guy who was good at bike tricks—he was a star.
