Daphne Etta Reid, born Daphne Maxwell on July 13, 1948, is a talented American actress, comedian, designer, and model. Many people know her best for playing Vivian Banks on the popular TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She took on this role from 1993 to 1996.

Early Life and Achievements
Daphne Maxwell Reid was born in New York City. Her parents were Rosalee and Green Maxwell. She went to The Bronx High School of Science, a special school for smart students.
College and Early Career
Daphne earned a degree in interior design and architecture from Northwestern University. She attended college on a scholarship. While there, she made history by becoming the first African-American woman to be named the school's homecoming queen.
During her time at Northwestern, she also started a successful modeling career. She signed with the famous Eileen Ford modeling agency. She also became the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of Glamour magazine.
Acting Career Highlights
Daphne Maxwell Reid has appeared in many different television programs. Her most famous role was playing Vivian Banks on the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She joined the show in 1993 and stayed until 1996. She took over the role from another actress, Janet Hubert-Whitten.

Before The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Daphne starred in several other TV series. These included Simon & Simon, Frank's Place, and Snoops.
Later, she had a repeating role as Frances Hunter on the UPN sitcom Eve. She also played Juanita Lawrence on the BET sitcom Let's Stay Together. In 2022, she made a special guest appearance in Bel-Air, which is a new version of Fresh Prince. She played a character named Janice.
Beyond Acting
Besides acting, Daphne Reid is also a skilled photographer. She is also a talented designer and creates her own clothing. She has received many awards, including the Women of Vision Award from Women in Film & Video.
Personal Life

In 1968, while still in college, Daphne married Robert Tubbs. They had one son named Chris. They later divorced in 1979.
In 1982, she married actor Tim Reid. She also became a stepmother to his two children. Daphne and Tim Reid used to own and run New Millennium Studios in Petersburg, Virginia. They operated the studios until 2014.
Daphne also served on the board of visitors at Virginia State University for eight years. This was a special group that helped guide the university. In July 2010, she became an honorary member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
