Janet Louise Hubert (born January 13, 1956) is an American actress and dancer. She is widely recognized for her role as the original Vivian Banks on the popular TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She played this character from 1990 to 1993. In 1991, she was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for her acting in the comedy series. More recently, in 2020, she received her first Daytime Emmy Award nomination for her role as Mignon in the digital series King Ester.

Early Life and Education
Janet Hubert was born in Chicago, Illinois. She spent her early childhood years growing up on the South Side of Chicago. When she was nine years old, her family moved to a more rural area outside Chicago. Janet later earned a scholarship to the famous Juilliard School in New York City, a top school for performing arts.
Acting Career Highlights
Janet Hubert started her career in theater. After touring nationally in a show called Dancin', she made her first appearance on Broadway in 1981. This was in a musical called The First, which was about the famous baseball player Jackie Robinson.
Becoming Aunt Viv
Hubert became very well-known for playing Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This role is what many people remember her for. She left the show after its third season. Later, another actress, Daphne Maxwell Reid, took over the role of Aunt Viv for the rest of the show's run.
Years later, in November 2020, Janet Hubert appeared in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion on HBO Max. During this special, she and Will Smith, the show's star, talked for the first time since she left the show. They discussed what happened, and Smith admitted he was "very young" and "immature" at the time. He apologized for his past behavior. Hubert then joined the other cast members at the reunion.

Janet Hubert has appeared in many other television shows and films. In 2002, she was in an episode of Friends as Chandler's boss. From 2005 to 2010, she had a recurring role as Lisa Williamson on the soap opera One Life to Live. She also played Michel Gerard's mother in an episode of Gilmore Girls.
Her other TV appearances include All My Children, NYPD Blue, The Bernie Mac Show, and Tyler Perry's House of Payne. In 2018, she joined the cast of the daytime soap opera General Hospital as a character named Yvonne. More recently, in 2021, Hubert appeared on FX's show Pose. In 2022, she began appearing on The Ms. Pat Show as the main character's mother-in-law, Jewell.
Personal Life and Health
Janet Hubert was married to James Whitten from 1990 to 1994. They had one son named Elijah Isaac Whitten. She has been married to Larry Kraft since 2005.
Janet Hubert has a bone condition called osteoporosis. She is an ambassador for the National Osteoporosis Foundation, helping to raise awareness about the condition.
