Darin Young's Darts Journey

Playing in the PDC

Darin first played in the big PDC World Darts Championship in 2005. He didn't win his first match that year, or the next year in 2006.

Las Vegas Desert Classic

Darin played in the Las Vegas Desert Classic five times in a row. He often made it to the second round.

  • In 2004, he beat Lionel Sams but then lost to Wayne Mardle.
  • In 2005, he won against Andy Hamilton before losing to Canadian player John Part.
  • In 2006, he lost in the first round to Raymond van Barneveld.
  • In 2007, Darin defeated Tony Eccles but then lost a very close game to Dennis Smith.
  • In 2008, he beat Martin Burchell before losing to Adrian Gray.

Big Wins and Grand Slam

Before the 2008 US Open, Darin won the North American Darts Championship. This was his biggest win at the time, earning him $15,000. This win also made him the top player in North America, which meant he got to play in the 2008 Grand Slam of Darts.

At the Grand Slam, Darin was in a group with tough players like Terry Jenkins and Colin Lloyd. He made an amazing comeback from being 3-0 down to win 5-4 against Terry Jenkins. Even though he lost another game, he beat Colin Lloyd to move on to the next round. He then lost to Raymond van Barneveld.

More World Championship Appearances

Darin qualified for the 2009 PDC World Darts Championship as the top American player. He lost in the first round to a young player named Michael van Gerwen. He also played in the 2009 Grand Slam of Darts again. He got out of his group but lost a very close match in the second round to Robert Thornton.

In the 2010 PDC World Darts Championship, Darin won his first match against Andy Smith. He then lost in the second round to Terry Jenkins. Later that year, he reached the final of the North American Dart Championship, beating Larry Butler before losing to John Part.

Darin continued to be a top player in North America, which helped him get into the 2011 and 2012 World Championships. He lost in the first round both times.

Playing for Team USA

In 2012, Darin represented the United States with Gary Mawson in the 2012 PDC World Cup of Darts. They did great, reaching the quarter-finals before losing to England.

He played in the 2013 World Championship and had another close match with Colin Lloyd, but lost in the final set. In February 2013, Darin played in his third World Cup of Darts, this time with Larry Butler. They didn't make it out of their group.

Recent Successes

Darin won two events on the North American Pro Tour in 2013. This helped him qualify for the 2014 World Championship, where he had a tough time hitting his doubles and lost. In the 2014 World Cup, Darin beat Adrian Lewis from England, but his team eventually lost to England in a deciding doubles match. Later that year, he won a soft tip darts event in Japan.

In 2015, Darin won several tournaments, including the Port City Open and the Virginia Beach Dart Classic. He also won the PDC Spectacular, which earned him a spot in the 2016 World Championship. He won the first set against Terry Jenkins but lost the match.

Darin won the Virginia Beach Dart Classic again in 2016. In the 2017 World Cup, Team USA beat Italy. Darin lost his singles match to Michael van Gerwen, but Larry Butler beat Raymond van Barneveld. This led to a deciding doubles game, which the Netherlands won.

2020 World Championship Highlight

In the 2020 World Championship, Darin qualified as the top American player. He had a fantastic win in the first round, beating the legendary Raymond van Barneveld 3-1! In the second round, he played against Jeffrey de Zwaan and had a chance to win the match, but he just missed a double. He ended up losing a very close game.
