Daronte Jones's Football Journey

Playing Days

Daronte Jones loved playing football. He played as a cornerback. He started at Temple University in 1996. Later, he moved to Morgan State University. Sadly, his playing career ended early. He had several injuries that caused nerve damage. This happened after his second season at Morgan State.

Coaching Starts

Daronte Jones then decided to become a coach. He started as a graduate assistant. This was at Lenoir–Rhyne in 2001. After that, he coached safeties at Nicholls State.

High School and College Coaching

Jones spent two years coaching high school football. He was a defensive coordinator in Louisiana. From 2005 to 2009, he worked at Bowie State University. This was in his home state of Maryland. He was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator there. In 2010, he coached at UCLA.

After UCLA, he coached in the CFL. He spent one year with the Montreal Alouettes. Then, he coached at Hawaii for three years. He even became an assistant head coach there. In 2015, he coached at Wisconsin.

Stepping into the NFL

Jones began coaching in the NFL in 2016. His first NFL team was the Miami Dolphins. He worked as an assistant defensive backs coach for two seasons. Next, he coached the secondary for the Cincinnati Bengals for two years. In 2020, he joined the Minnesota Vikings. He was their defensive backs coach.

Coaching at LSU

On January 26, 2021, Jones became the defensive coordinator at LSU. He was in charge of the team's defense. However, he only stayed for one season.

Back with the Vikings

On February 23, 2022, Daronte Jones returned to the Minnesota Vikings. He came back as the team's defensive backs coach. He continued in this role for the 2022 season. For the 2023 season and beyond, he is also the defensive passing game coordinator.
