Darrow Brook is a small stream, about 4.25 miles (6.84 km) long. It flows into a larger stream called West Branch French Creek. This brook starts in Chautauqua County, New York and then crosses into Erie County, Pennsylvania. Scientists call Darrow Brook a "first-order stream." This means it's one of the smallest streams that doesn't have other streams flowing into it yet.
Where Darrow Brook Flows
Darrow Brook begins in the Town of Mina, which is in western New York. It flows mostly north and then turns northwest. The brook then crosses the state border into Erie County, Pennsylvania. Finally, it joins the West Branch French Creek near a place called Ashton Corners.
The Land Around Darrow Brook
The area that Darrow Brook collects water from is called its watershed. This watershed covers about 6.5 square miles (16.8 square kilometers). The land here is part of something called the Erie Drift Plain. This means the landscape was shaped by glaciers long ago.
The watershed gets a good amount of rain and snow each year, about 46.8 inches (119 cm). A big part of the land, about 59%, is covered by forests. This helps keep the water clean and provides homes for wildlife.
