Dave Benson Phillips' Career
Dave Benson Phillips first became interested in show business when he worked as an usher at the Polka Children's Theatre in Wimbledon, London. He started his career by performing for people on the street and at children's parties.
Early Entertainment Jobs
Later, he worked for holiday companies like Pontins as a "Bluecoat" and for Haven Holidays as a "Children's Uncle." These jobs involved entertaining families and kids. While at Haven, a talent scout saw him perform. A talent scout is someone who looks for new performers. This led to an audition for a BBC show called Play School.
His audition went well, but the show was stopped before he could start. However, it was later brought back as Playbus, which was then renamed Playdays. This show ran for nine years, and Dave was a part of it.
Becoming a TV Star
In 1991, Dave got his very own show called Get Your Own Back. It was shown on BBC One and later on CBBC. The show ran from 1991 to 2003. It was a game show where a child contestant could get "revenge" on an adult, like a parent or teacher, who they felt had done something unfair. The "revenge" usually involved the adult getting covered in messy goo! In 1999, the show was even nominated for a BAFTA award.
In 1996, he also got a show on ITV called Wake Up in the Wild Room.
Other Projects and Appearances
Dave Benson Phillips also runs his own company called Chester Benson Productions. This company offers entertainment, moving services, and even bouncy castles for hire.
Since May 2012, he has co-hosted a music festival called Let's Rock The Moor! with another presenter, Pat Sharp. He has also appeared on other TV shows, including Big Brother's Bit on the Side on Channel 5.
In 2013, Dave made a guest appearance in the TV show Sooty. He also plays himself in a funny online series called Getting Back with Dave Benson Phillips, which started in 2017. This series was even shown at MCM Comic Con London. You can watch it and a spin-off series called In Production on YouTube.
Dave has also worked as a professional wrestler. He even did some wrestling when he was a Bluecoat at Pontins!
Online Rumors and Fake News
In 2009, a false rumor spread online that Dave Benson Phillips had died in a car crash. This was not true. It was an example of a "death hoax," which is when someone falsely claims a person has died. In 2017, Dave spoke with people in charge about how to stop fake news from spreading online.
