Early Life and Music
Farrell was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts. When he was five, his family moved to Mission Viejo, California. His mother taught him to play guitar when he was in high school. He also played the violin.
Farrell went to the UCLA. There, he shared a room with Brad Delson, who would later become his bandmate in Linkin Park. Farrell studied philosophy at UCLA.
Music Career
Playing with Tasty Snax
While in high school, Farrell joined a Christian ska punk band called Tasty Snax. They later changed their name to The Snax. Phoenix switched from playing electric guitar to bass guitar for the band.
His college friend, Mark Fiore, was also in the band. Mark Fiore later helped make many video albums for Linkin Park. Tasty Snax recorded two studio albums. Farrell left the band in 2000.
Joining Linkin Park
Farrell joined Xero, which was the first version of Linkin Park. He met Brad Delson at UCLA. Farrell helped with the band's first demo tape in 1997.
He then left the band for a short time to tour with Tasty Snax. Other musicians filled in for him during this time. Farrell returned to Linkin Park in 2000. He has been the band's bassist for six of their seven studio albums.
On the 2002 song "Krwlng" from the album Reanimation, Farrell played the violin and cello. He also helped manage the band's business.
Linkin Park took a break after Chester Bennington passed away in 2017. Farrell did not speak at Bennington's memorial service. He said he could not find the right words to express his feelings.
Linkin Park returned in 2024 after a seven-year break. They announced a new album, From Zero, and a tour.
Hobbies and Interests
Farrell enjoys playing golf. He is also a big fan of association football (soccer). He supports the LA Galaxy team and used to have season tickets.
He has a podcast with his best friend, professional golfer Brendan Steele. Mark Fiore, Linkin Park's videographer, also joins them on the podcast.
