David Doyle is a very important judge in the Cayman Islands. Before that, he was a top judge called the First Deemster (pronounced Deem-ster) on the Isle of Man. He also held other important roles there, like Clerk of the Rolls and Deputy Governor. He started as First Deemster in 2010 and served until July 2018.
David Doyle became a lawyer in 1982 and then joined the Manx Bar (the group of lawyers on the Isle of Man) in 1984. He was also a partner at a law firm called Dickinson Cruickshank & Co for many years.
He spent his early years growing up in Hong Kong, where he went to Island School. Later, he studied at King William's College on the Isle of Man from 1974 to 1978. In 1981, he earned a law degree from the University of Newcastle.

Becoming a Top Judge
In November 2010, it was announced that David Doyle would become the First Deemster. This happened after the previous First Deemster, Michael Kerruish, passed away. David Doyle officially took on the role on 20 December 2010.
As First Deemster, he was the senior judge on the Isle of Man. This role is very old and important, going back hundreds of years. The First Deemster helps make sure the laws are followed and justice is served.
Writing a Book about Law
In 2010, David Doyle wrote a book called Manx Criminal Law and Procedure. This book explains all about criminal law on the Isle of Man. It's a helpful guide for lawyers and students who want to understand the island's legal system.
Special Recognition
On 18 November 2011, he received a special honour. He was appointed as a Bencher of Gray's Inn. Gray's Inn is one of the four "Inns of Court" in London, where barristers (a type of lawyer) are trained. Being a Bencher is a sign of great respect and achievement in the legal world.
Moving On
In February 2018, it was announced that David Doyle would leave his position as First Deemster in July 2018. He decided to return to working as a private lawyer. Andrew Corlett took over his role as First Deemster. David Doyle then became a judge in the Cayman Islands.
