David Green (born September 7, 1953) is an American former professional gridiron football player. He was a talented running back who played in both the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the National Football League (NFL). He is known for his impressive rushing skills and winning several awards during his career.

Early Life and College Football
David Green was born on September 7, 1953, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He went to Richlands High School and then to Chowan Junior College.
He played college football at Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. While playing there in 1975 and 1976, he was recognized as an Honorable Mention All-American. This means he was one of the best players in the country. He was also named to the Conference all-star team. In 19 games, he averaged an amazing 104 rushing yards per game. His great achievements led to him being inducted into the Edinboro Hall of Fame in 1988.
Professional Football Career
David Green had a successful career playing for teams in both Canada and the United States.
Playing in the CFL
Green started his professional career in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for the Montreal Alouettes for three seasons, from 1978 to 1980.
His best season was in 1979. That year, he rushed for 1,678 yards, which is a lot! He had nine games where he ran for over 100 yards. In one game against the Ottawa Rough Riders, he rushed for 212 yards. He also scored three touchdowns in a game against the Toronto Argonauts. Because of his outstanding performance, he won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player Award in 1979. He was also named an All-Canadian all-star.
Green also played in two Grey Cup games, which are the CFL's championship games. In the 67th Grey Cup against the Edmonton Eskimos, he had an incredible game. He rushed for 142 yards, which was the most by any player in that game. Even though his team lost, he was named the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player for his excellent effort.
In 1981, Green was traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He played one season with them.
Playing in the NFL
In 1982, David Green moved to the National Football League (NFL) in the United States. He played for the Cleveland Browns during a season that was shorter due to a player strike. He returned one kickoff for 13 yards during his time with the Browns.
