David Green was an amazing American gridiron football player. He was born on September 7, 1953. David played as a running back for teams in both Canada and the United States. He was part of the Montreal Alouettes and Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Later, he also played for the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League (NFL).

Early Life and College Football
David Green was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He went to Richlands High School. After that, he attended Chowan Junior College.
College Success
He played college football at Edinboro University in Edinboro, Pennsylvania. David was a star player in 1975 and 1976. He was even named an Honorable Mention All-American. This means he was one of the best college players in the country.
He also made the Conference all-star team. In 19 games, he averaged 104 rushing yards per game. This shows how strong he was at running with the ball. David was honored for his college career in 1988. He was inducted into the Edinboro Hall of Fame.
Professional Football Career
David Green started his professional career in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He joined the Montreal Alouettes in 1978. He played for them for three seasons.
Montreal Alouettes Highlights
David played in 5 games in 1978. He then played 16 games in 1979 and 14 games in 1980. He also played in two big championship games called the Grey Cup. These were the 66th Grey Cup and the 67th Grey Cup.
His best year was 1979. He ran for an incredible 1,678 yards that season. He had nine games where he rushed for over 100 yards. On October 27, 1979, he had a fantastic game. He ran for 212 yards against the Ottawa Rough Riders. He also scored 3 touchdowns in a game against the Toronto Argonauts.
Because of his amazing performance, David Green won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player Award in 1979. He was also named an All-Canadian all-star. In 1980, he was an All-East division all-star.
Grey Cup MVP
David's best Grey Cup game was the 67th Grey Cup. This was against the Edmonton Eskimos. He led all players with 142 rushing yards. This was one of the highest single-game totals in Grey Cup history. Even though his team lost, David won the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player award for his outstanding effort.
Moving to Hamilton
After his great years with Montreal, David Green was traded. Before the 1981 CFL season, he moved to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He played one season with them.
NFL Experience
In 1982, David Green got a chance to play in the National Football League (NFL). He joined the Cleveland Browns. The 1982 NFL season was shorter than usual. David returned one kickoff for 13 yards during his time with the Browns.
