David Wayne Jackson Jr. (born August 12, 1982) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for Franca in Brazil's top league, Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). David is a versatile player, known as a combo guard, meaning he can play both point guard and shooting guard.
He played high school basketball in Maryland and North Carolina. Later, he attended Gulf Coast Community College in Florida. He then transferred to Penn State for his final two years of college basketball.
After college, David began his professional career in Uruguay. He has won many awards in South America. These include two MVP awards, multiple All-Star selections, and a scoring title. In 2023, he helped Franca win the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. He was also named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Early Life and High School Basketball
David Jackson was born in Rockville, Maryland. He grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He went to High Point High School in Beltsville. There, he played as a point guard.
After high school, David faced a challenge. He had a foot injury and his test scores were not high enough for college basketball. He turned down an offer from a smaller college. David then worked at a center for older adults. Later, he decided to attend Bonner Academy. This was a special prep school in Raleigh, North Carolina. He went there to improve his grades and prepare for college basketball.
College Basketball Journey
David visited several community colleges in Florida. He chose to attend Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida. During his two years there, he was named an All-Panhandle Conference player twice.
In his second year, he was excellent. He averaged 18.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He also led Florida in 3-point shooting, making 55% of his shots.
His strong performance caught the eye of bigger colleges. He received offers from several top schools. In April 2005, he chose to play for Penn State. He decided to study business management.
In his first year at Penn State, he started all 30 games. He averaged 6.7 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. In his second year, he improved his shooting. He made 41.7% of his shots overall and 37.1% from three-point range. He also made 83.6% of his free throws.
Professional Basketball Career
Starting in South America
After college, David Jackson was not chosen in the NBA draft. This meant he could sign with any team. He began his professional career in Uruguay with Defensor Sporting. He scored 21 points per game there. He even scored a career-high 38 points in one game.
In March 2008, he moved to Puerto Rico. He played 11 games for Grises de Humacao. Later in 2008, he joined Peñarol Mar del Plata in Argentina. He played 58 games and averaged 18.4 points. He was named the League MVP, the first foreign player to win this award.
In June 2009, he joined La Unión. In his first season, he led the league in scoring. He averaged 18.9 points per game. He also shot very well, making 57.7% of his shots overall. He stayed with La Unión for another season, continuing to score well.
First Time in Brazil
In 2011, David moved to Brazil. He signed with Flamengo. He helped them win the Carioca State Championship. After a short time in Venezuela with Guaiqueríes de Margarita, he returned to Flamengo.
He played in the 2011–12 NBB season. He averaged 16.2 points per game. He also had an amazing shooting season. He made over 60% of his field goals, 40% of his three-pointers, and 90% of his free throws. In 2012, he went back to Argentina. He played for Gimnasia Indalo. He averaged 17.6 points per game there.
In April 2013, he played for Cangrejeros de Santurce in Puerto Rico. Then, he returned to Brazil in August. He signed with Winner/Kabum Limeira. He played in the Paulista State Championship and the NBB.
In the 2013–14 NBB season, he had a fantastic year. He averaged 20.6 points per game. He was named to the All-NBB Team. He also won the MVP and Best Foreign Player awards. He continued to play well for Limeira the next season.
Time with Quimsa and Vasco da Gama
In 2015, David left Brazil and joined Quimsa. This is an Argentine team from Santiago del Estero. He averaged 13.7 points per game in 47 games. He also played in the 2016 FIBA Americas League.
Later, he joined Vasco da Gama in Brazil. He helped them get promoted to the NBB, Brazil's top basketball league. For the 2016–17 season, he briefly played for Quimsa again. Then, he signed back with Vasco da Gama. He averaged 17 points per game in the NBB that season. In the 2017–18 NBB season, he averaged 15.4 points per game.
Success with Franca
In July 2018, David Jackson signed with Franca. He helped the team win the Paulista State Championship in 2018. He also played in the 2018–19 NBB season, averaging 16.7 points per game.
David led Franca to win the 2018 Liga Sudamericana de Básquetbol. He was named the Most Valuable Player of that competition.
Short Stay at Minas and Return to Franca
On December 1, 2020, David signed with Minas. He played there for a season.
On June 7, 2021, Franca announced that David Jackson was returning to their team. Since his return, he has achieved great success. On April 16, 2023, he helped Franca win the Basketball Champions League Americas championship. He also won the NBB championship in both 2022 and 2023. He was named to the league's All-First Team again in 2023.
On September 24, 2023, David won the FIBA Intercontinental Cup with Franca. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
