David Neville, born on June 1, 1984, is an American sprinter. He is best known for running the 400-meter race. David is a two-time medalist from the Summer Olympics, winning one gold and one bronze medal. He grew up in Merrillville, Indiana. David was the first track and field athlete from Indiana University to win an individual Olympic medal since 1960.

David Neville's Running Journey

David Neville started his running career in high school. He attended Merrillville High School from 1998 to 2002. There, he was a part of the track and field team.

College Athletics and Achievements

After high school, David went to Indiana University. He competed for the university from 2003 to 2006. During his time there, he won several important titles. He earned many individual Big Ten conference championships. He was also named an All-American, which means he was recognized as one of the best college athletes in the country.

Olympic Success in Beijing

David Neville achieved great success at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. He won a bronze medal in the men's 400-meter race. His time was 44.80 seconds.

He then joined his teammates LaShawn Merritt, Angelo Taylor, and Jeremy Wariner. Together, they competed in the 4 × 400-meter relay race. They finished first, setting a new Olympic record with a time of 2:55.39. David ran his part of the relay in 44.16 seconds.

Life After Running

After retiring from his professional running career, David Neville became a coach. He first took on the role of Head Coach for both the men's and women's track and field teams at Taylor University.

Coaching Career Highlights

At Taylor University, David helped recruit many talented athletes. Some of these athletes were good enough to compete at the Division 1 level. These included Caleb Anthony, who became an NAIA Champion in the 400-meter hurdles. Sam Lacher won the Crossroads League Championship in the 400 meters. Luke Wilson was also a strong high jumper.

In 2017, David moved to the University of Tennessee - Knoxville. There, he led the sprint squad. This team included many athletes who had competed in the Olympics. David Neville is now the head coach of Georgia Southern's track and field and cross country teams.

Other Appearances

In 2016, David Neville also appeared on a TV show called American Grit. He finished in sixth place on the show.
