About David Pujadas

David Pujadas has had a long and successful career in television news. He is known for his serious and informative style.

Early Life and Education

David Pujadas went to high school at Lycée International de Ferney-Voltaire. After that, he studied at the University of Aix-Marseille and Sciences Po. He then joined the Centre for Journalist Training (CFJ) in Paris in 1988. This training helped him become a professional journalist.

Starting His News Career

David Pujadas won a contest for reporters at TF1, a major French TV channel. He became a foreign correspondent, which means he reported news from other countries. He covered big events like the fall of Nicolae Ceausescu in Romania in 1989. He also reported on the Gulf War in 1991 and the siege of Sarajevo in 1992. During this time, he sometimes presented the morning and late-night news shows when the regular hosts were away.

From 1990 to 1994, he also worked on an investigative show called “Le droit de savoir.” This show looked into important topics and uncovered facts.

Moving to LCI and France 2

In 1994, David Pujadas joined LCI, which was a new 24-hour news channel from TF1. He regularly presented newscasts there. By 1996, he was hosting "Le Grand Journal" in the evenings. He also created a weekly political show called 100% politique.

In September 2001, he became the main news presenter for France 2's 8 PM news. This was a big role, and he covered major events like the 9/11 attacks live on French television.

Important Moments in His Career

In 2004, David Pujadas made a mistake during a news program. He announced that a politician, Alain Juppé, was leaving politics. However, Juppé said something different on another channel at the same time. Pujadas apologized for the error the next day. Because of this, he was given two weeks off.

Later in his career, David Pujadas hosted several political shows. From 2005 to 2006, he presented “Le Contrat”, where he interviewed politicians. He also co-hosted “Madame, Monsieur, bonsoir” on France 5.

During the 2012 French presidential election, he hosted Des paroles et des actes (Words and Deeds). On this show, political candidates talked about their plans and ideas. He also co-hosted a televised debate between the presidential candidates François Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy. This show continued until 2016.

Leaving France 2

On May 17, 2017, the director of France Télévisions decided that David Pujadas would leave his role as the main news anchor at France 2. His last news report was on June 8, 2017. This decision was made to bring new faces to the news program, even though his show was very popular.
