David Rozehnal (born on July 5, 1980) is a former professional footballer from the Czech Republic. He played as a centre-back, which is a defensive position in football. David had a long career, playing for many different clubs across Europe for almost 20 years. He played in over 400 games before he stopped playing professionally in April 2018. He also represented his country, the Czech Republic, in 60 international matches. He played in three big tournaments: Euro 2004, the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2008.

Early Life and Family Background
David Rozehnal was born in Šternberk and grew up in Kožušany, a town in the Czech Republic. He comes from a family that loved sports. His father was a football player in the second league, and his mother played competitive handball. David's father later coached an amateur club called Sokol Kožušany. This is where David first started playing football.

Playing for Club Brugge
In 2003, David joined Club Brugge, a football club in Belgium. Soon after joining, he was part of the team that beat AC Milan at the San Siro stadium in the UEFA Champions League. This was a big achievement! In his first season with Brugge, he helped the team win the Belgian Cup. The next season, 2004–05, they also won the Belgian League.
Playing for Paris Saint-Germain

David Rozehnal moved to Paris Saint-Germain in France in June 2005. He played very well there. Because of his good performance, other big clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United, and Sevilla became interested in him. David's close friends said he preferred to move to Newcastle.
Playing for Newcastle United
On June 22, 2007, David Rozehnal's agent confirmed that he would join Newcastle United in England. David had a medical check-up on June 25. Newcastle officially announced his transfer on June 29. They paid £2.9 million for him, and he signed a four-year contract. He played his first league game for Newcastle on August 11 against Bolton Wanderers.
Playing for Lazio
On January 31, 2008, David left Newcastle to join Lazio in Italy. He went on loan until the end of the 2007–08 Serie A season. Even though he had only joined Newcastle in June 2007, he moved to Italy. He played only seven games for Lazio during his loan. It was not clear if Lazio wanted to sign him permanently. However, on June 9, 2008, Lazio announced they had signed David permanently. Newcastle received the full £2.9 million they had paid for him.
Later Career and Retirement

After just one year in Italy, David Rozehnal left Lazio on July 29, 2009. He joined the German club Hamburger SV and signed a contract until June 30, 2012. He had a difficult season with Hamburg, making some costly mistakes. Because of this, he was removed from the main team and asked to find a new club.
On August 31, 2010, Hamburg confirmed that David had moved to the French team Lille on loan. Hamburg still paid part of his salary. He made his move to Lille permanent in June 2011, signing a contract until 2014.
David Rozehnal officially retired from professional football on April 4, 2018. After retiring, he joined the amateur club Sokol Kožušany, where his brother Marek also played. He made his debut for this club the very next weekend.
International Football Career
David Rozehnal was a part of the Czech Republic national youth team. This team won the UEFA U-21 Championships in 2002. In 2004, David played his first game for the senior Czech Republic team. This was a friendly match against Italy on February 18, 2004, which ended in a 2–2 draw.
He then played for his country in Euro 2004. The team reached the semi-finals but was knocked out by Greece. He also played in the group stage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup. However, his team did not make it to the knockout rounds. David played in his third major tournament at Euro 2008. He scored his only goal for his country in his 57th international game. This goal came in a 3–1 friendly win against Belgium.
Personal Life
David Rozehnal is married to Petra, and they have two children. Their first child, a son named Luka, was born on October 3, 2007.
