David Rozehnal (born 5 July 1980) is a former professional football player from the Czech Republic. He played as a centre-back, which is a defensive position in football. David had a long career, playing for many different clubs across Europe for almost 20 years. He played in over 400 games before he stopped playing professionally in April 2018. He also proudly represented his country, the Czech Republic, in 60 international matches. He even played in three big tournaments: Euro 2004, the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2008.

Early Life and Family
David Rozehnal was born in a town called Šternberk in Czechoslovakia. He grew up in Kožušany. Sports were a big part of his family life! His dad was a football player in a lower league, and his mom played competitive handball. David's father later coached an amateur football club called Sokol Kožušany, which is where David first started playing football.
Club Career Highlights
David Rozehnal played for several famous football clubs during his career. He moved between different countries, showing his skills in Belgium, France, England, Italy, and Germany.
Playing for Club Brugge
In 2003, David joined Club Brugge, a team in Belgium. Soon after joining, he was part of the team that beat AC Milan, a very strong Italian club, in a UEFA Champions League match. During his time with Brugge, he helped them win the Belgian Cup in his first season. The team also won the Belgian League championship in the 2004–05 season.
Time at Paris Saint-Germain

David moved to Paris Saint-Germain in France in June 2005. He played very well there, and other big clubs like Newcastle United in England became interested in him.
Joining Newcastle United
On 22 June 2007, it was confirmed that David would join Newcastle United. He had a medical check-up, and the transfer was completed on 29 June. He signed a four-year contract with the English club. David played his first league game for Newcastle on 11 August against Bolton Wanderers.
Moving to Lazio
On 31 January 2008, David left Newcastle to join Lazio, an Italian club, on a loan deal. Even though he had only been at Newcastle for a few months, he moved to Italy. After playing seven games for Lazio during his loan, the club decided to sign him permanently. On 9 June 2008, Lazio officially bought David, and Newcastle got back the money they had paid for him.
Later Career and Retirement

After just one year in Italy, David left Lazio on 29 July 2009 to play for Hamburger SV in Germany. He signed a contract until 2012. After a challenging season, he looked for a new club.
On 31 August 2010, David moved to Lille, a French team, on a loan deal. He then made a permanent move to Lille in June 2011, signing a contract until 2014.
David Rozehnal officially retired from professional football on 4 April 2018. After retiring, he joined an amateur club called Sokol Kožušany, where he played alongside his brother, Marek. This was the same club where he started playing football as a child!
International Career
David Rozehnal also had a great career playing for his country, the Czech Republic.
- He was part of the Czech Republic's youth team that won the UEFA U-21 Championships in 2002.
- In 2004, David played his first game for the senior Czech Republic team. It was a friendly match against Italy on 18 February 2004, which ended in a 2–2 draw.
- He played for his country at Euro 2004, where the team reached the semi-finals but lost to Greece.
- David also played in the group stage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
- His third major tournament was Euro 2008.
- He scored his only goal for the national team in his 57th game. It was in a friendly match against Belgium, which the Czech Republic won 3–1.
Personal Life
David Rozehnal is married to Petra. They have two children. Their first child, a son named Luka, was born on 3 October 2007.
