A Look Back at Dazey's History

Dazey was founded in 1883. It was named after Charles Turner Dazey. He moved to North Dakota from Illinois in the early 1880s. He came to run a very large farm, known as a bonanza farm. Mr. Dazey was the one who donated the land to start the town. Later, he moved back to Illinois. There, he became a successful playwright, someone who writes plays for the theater.

Dazey officially became a village in 1904. Its population grew over time, reaching its highest point of 293 people in 1920. In 1967, Dazey became a city. This happened after North Dakota changed its laws. The new laws made all towns and villages in the state officially cities.
