How De'Longhi Started
De'Longhi was started by the De'Longhi family way back in 1902. It began as a small workshop that made parts for other industries. In 1950, the company officially became a business.
For a long time, De'Longhi was mostly known for making portable heaters and air conditioners. But over the years, the company grew a lot. Now, they make almost every kind of small appliance for your home. This includes things for cooking, cleaning, and even ironing.
Cool Products from De'Longhi
De'Longhi is famous for some of its special products. These include the Artista Series espresso machines, which make delicious coffee. They also make the De'Longhi gelato maker, so you can create your own ice cream at home. Another popular product is the Pinguino portable air conditioner, which helps keep rooms cool.
Award-Winning Designs
De'Longhi is known for making products that look great. Their Esclusivo line of kitchen appliances won a special award called the Red Dot design award in 2007. This award is given to products with excellent design. In 2006, the company's Design Director, Giacomo Borin, was even named one of the 50 most important designers in the world.
Growing the Company
De'Longhi has grown by buying other companies. This helps them offer more products and reach more customers.
Buying Other Companies
In 2001, De'Longhi bought a British appliance maker called Kenwood. This deal cost about $66.7 million. Buying Kenwood gave De'Longhi access to Kenwood's factory in China. Because of this, many De'Longhi products are now made in China. However, the ideas and engineering for the products are still mostly done in Italy.
In 2006, De'Longhi bought a big part of RC Group. RC Group is a leader in cooling systems for large computer centers. This helped De'Longhi become even stronger in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) market.
Overall, De'Longhi has 13 factories and 30 international offices around the world. These offices help sell products to 75 different countries. Sales from outside Italy make up almost 75 percent of the company's total money earned. In 2010, their total earnings were over €1.63 billion.
In 2012, a new group called DeLclima was created from De'Longhi. Also in 2012, De'Longhi bought the rights to make Braun brand small appliances from Procter & Gamble. This means De'Longhi can make and sell Braun small appliances forever, even though Procter & Gamble still owns the Braun brand name.
More recently, in 2018, an Indian company called Orient Electric teamed up with De'Longhi. They work together to sell small kitchen appliances in India. In November 2020, De'Longhi announced they bought Capital Brands, a company that makes mixers, for 420 million euros.
De'Longhi on the Stock Market
Shares of De'Longhi are traded on Milan's stock exchange. This means people can buy and sell parts of the company, like buying a share in its success. The company's symbol on the stock market is DLG.
De'Longhi's earnings have been growing steadily. In 2022, the company's total earnings were €3.16 billion.
In October 2017, some of De'Longhi's dehumidifiers received a special certification. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and Allergy Standards Limited said that five De'Longhi dehumidifiers were "Asthma and Allergy Friendly". This was the first time any dehumidifiers received this important mark.
