DeMarlo Hale, born on July 16, 1961, is an American professional baseball coach. He currently works for the Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before becoming a coach, Hale played minor league baseball from 1983 to 1988. He played for teams connected to the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics.

Early Career in Baseball
DeMarlo Hale went to Chicago's CVS High School. After he finished playing baseball, he started working at the Bucky Dent baseball school in Florida. He worked there from 1989 to 1992.
Becoming a Coach
In 1992, Hale became a coach for the Double-A New Britain team. This team was part of the Eastern League. The next year, in 1993, he started his career as a manager. He managed the High-A Fort Lauderdale Red Sox team. This team was part of the Boston Red Sox system.
Manager of the Year
Hale quickly showed he was a great manager. In 1994, he led the Sarasota team to the playoffs. In 1995, he also led the Michigan team to the playoffs. For his excellent work, he won the Midwest League Manager of the Year Award.
In 1997, he moved up to manage the Double-A Trenton team. He even managed the American League team in the Double-A All-Star Game.
Top Minor League Manager
Hale had a fantastic year in 1999 with the Trenton team. They had a great record of 92 wins and 50 losses. That same year, he coached the United States team in the All-Star Futures Game. This big game was played at Fenway Park. Because of his success, he was named Minor League Manager of the Year by several major sports publications. These included Baseball America, The Sporting News, and USA Today Baseball Weekly. He also won the Eastern League's top honor.

Coaching in Major League Baseball
From 2000 to 2001, Hale managed the Texas Rangers' Triple-A team, the Oklahoma RedHawks. He helped his team finish second in their division twice. He also worked with the main Rangers team during spring training.
Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox
Hale was promoted to be the Texas Rangers' first base coach in 2002. He also helped players with their outfield skills. He stayed in these roles until the end of the 2005 season.
Before the 2006 season, the Boston Red Sox hired Hale as their third base coach. He had worked with the Red Sox manager, Terry Francona, before. In 2009, Hale became the Red Sox's bench coach. This is a very important coaching role.
Moving to Other Teams
After the 2011 season, Hale left the Red Sox. He became the third base coach for the Baltimore Orioles in 2012.
On November 24, 2012, Hale joined the Toronto Blue Jays as their new bench coach. This was a return to the Blue Jays organization for him. In 2013, he was ejected from a game for the first time in his MLB career. This happened when he argued with an umpire.
Recent Coaching Roles
In 2019, Hale joined the Atlanta Braves as a minor league coach. He also worked as a special assistant. In July 2020, he moved to the Braves' main coaching staff. This happened during the 2020 season, which was shorter due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On November 23, 2020, Hale was hired as the bench coach for the Cleveland Indians (now called the Cleveland Guardians). In July 2021, he became the acting manager for the rest of the season. This happened because the main manager, Terry Francona, took a break for health reasons.
On November 13, 2023, DeMarlo Hale returned to the Toronto Blue Jays. He was hired to be the associate manager under John Schneider.
