DeShone Allen Kizer (born January 3, 1996) is an American former professional football quarterback. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for four seasons. Kizer played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Cleveland Browns picked him in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft.
Kizer was the Browns' starting quarterback in his first year. However, his time there lasted only one season. He then played as a backup for the Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Tennessee Titans.

Early Life and High School Football
DeShone Kizer grew up in Toledo, Ohio. He went to Central Catholic High School. Kizer was a star player on his high school football team. He was the starting quarterback for three years.
His team had a great record of 34 wins and 6 losses from 2011 to 2013. In 2012, they won the Ohio Division II state championship. During his high school career, Kizer threw for over 5,600 yards and 56 touchdowns. He also ran for over 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Experts thought Kizer was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in his class. On June 11, 2013, he decided to play college football at the University of Notre Dame.

College Career at Notre Dame
Kizer started his college career at Notre Dame in 2014. He did not play in games that year, which is called a redshirt year.
Becoming a Starter in 2015
In 2015, Kizer began as a backup quarterback. But in the second game of the season, the starting quarterback got hurt. Kizer stepped in and helped Notre Dame win the game. He threw a 39-yard touchdown pass with only 12 seconds left! After that, Kizer became the main starting quarterback.
He had some amazing games that year. Against Pitt, he was responsible for six touchdowns (five passing, one running). In another game against Temple, he ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Notre Dame finished the regular season with 10 wins and 2 losses. They played in the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. Kizer finished his first year playing with 2,880 passing yards and 525 rushing yards. He scored 31 total touchdowns.
2016 Season and NFL Decision
Kizer continued as the starter in 2016. In the first game, he threw for five touchdowns and ran for another. He had a career-high 471 passing yards in a win against Syracuse. Even though Kizer played well, the team had a tough season, finishing with 4 wins and 8 losses.
After the 2016 season, Kizer decided to leave college early. He chose to enter the 2017 NFL draft.

Getting Ready for the NFL Draft
Before the NFL draft, Kizer was invited to the NFL Combine. This is where college players show off their skills to NFL teams. Experts thought Kizer would be picked in the first or second round. He was seen as one of the top quarterbacks in the draft class.

Playing for the Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns picked DeShone Kizer in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft. He was the fourth quarterback chosen overall. In August 2017, the Browns named Kizer their starting quarterback for the season.
Kizer made his NFL debut on September 10, 2017. He threw for 222 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a touchdown. However, the Browns lost the game. Kizer started 15 games in his rookie season. He threw for 2,894 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also ran for 419 yards and five touchdowns. The Browns finished the season with no wins and 16 losses.
Time with Other Teams
In March 2018, Kizer was traded to the Green Bay Packers. He played as a backup to star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Kizer played in a few games when Rodgers was injured. In August 2019, the Packers released him.
The Oakland Raiders then claimed Kizer. He was later with the Las Vegas Raiders after the team moved. He was mostly on the practice squad, which is a group of players who train with the team but don't usually play in games.
In November 2020, Kizer joined the Tennessee Titans practice squad. He was with the Titans until August 2021.

Life After Football
DeShone Kizer's father, Derek, played college basketball at Bowling Green from 1987 to 1991.
