Dean Carroll (1962 – 24 May 2015) was an English professional rugby league player and cricketer. He played rugby league in the 1980s and 1990s.

Dean played for several clubs, including Bradford Northern, Carlisle, Warrington (on loan), Batley, and Doncaster. He played in different positions like fullback, positions, stand-off, positions, or scrum-half, positions. After his playing career, he also became a coach for teams like West Bowling A.R.L.F.C. and Staincliffe ARLFC. Dean also played cricket for Buttershaw St. Paul's Cricket Club. He passed away in 2015 after a period of illness.

Dean Carroll was born in 1962 in the Spen Valley area of West Riding of Yorkshire, England. As a child, he attended St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Batley. He also went to St John Fisher Catholic School in Dewsbury. Later in his life, he worked at Fox's Biscuits in Batley.

Playing Rugby League

Early Days and Teams

Dean Carroll started playing rugby league at a young age. He played for his school team, St John Fisher Catholic School. He also played for a local club called Batley Boys ARLFC.

In 1980, Dean joined the professional team Bradford Northern. He made his first appearance for them that same year against Blackpool Borough.

Later, in 1985, a famous Wales international player named Terry Holmes joined Bradford Northern. Dean felt that his chances to play in the first-team might be limited. Because of this, he decided to move to Carlisle. Looking back, it turned out that Terry Holmes had many injuries. This might have meant more playing opportunities for Dean at Bradford Northern than he first thought.

Dean also had a short time playing for Warrington. He made his first appearance for them on March 5, 1989. His last game for Warrington was on April 16, 1989.

Big Games and Achievements

Dean Carroll played in an important match called the 1982–83 Yorkshire Cup Final. This game was part of the 1982–83 season. He played as a scrum-half, positions for Bradford Northern.

In this final, which took place on October 2, 1982, at Elland Road in Leeds, Bradford Northern played against Hull F.C.. Dean scored a goal and two drop goals in the match. However, Bradford Northern lost the game to Hull F.C. with a score of 7–18.
