Dean Furman (born June 22, 1988) is a professional soccer player from South Africa. He plays as a midfielder for Warrington Rylands 1906 in England. Dean has also played for well-known clubs like Rangers, Oldham Athletic, Doncaster Rovers, and SuperSport United.
He also played for the South Africa national team from 2012 to 2020. He was even the captain and played in three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Dean Furman's Football Journey
Starting at Chelsea
Dean Furman began his football career when he was just nine years old. He joined the youth team at Premier League club Chelsea. He stayed there until he was 18.
Playing for Rangers
In 2006, Dean signed with Scottish Premiership team Rangers. He was a key player in their reserve team. He also captained the Under-19 team to win the Scottish Youth Cup in 2007. He made his first professional appearance for Rangers in May 2008. He played for Rangers for three years.
Loan to Bradford City
In August 2008, Dean joined League Two side Bradford City on a loan. He played 12 league games before a hamstring injury kept him out. He later scored his first goal for Bradford in a 3–3 draw against Luton Town.
Time at Oldham Athletic
After his loan, Dean decided to join League One team Oldham Athletic in 2009. He signed a three-year contract. In 2011, he won the Football League Goal of the Year award for an amazing goal. He became the captain of Oldham Athletic for the 2011–12 season when he was only 23. He played 147 games for Oldham, scoring nine goals.
Moving to Doncaster Rovers
In March 2013, Dean joined Doncaster Rovers on loan. He helped them win the League One title and get promoted. After this success, he signed a permanent contract with Doncaster. He played 82 games for them over two years.
Playing in South Africa with SuperSport United
In 2015, Dean returned to his home country, South Africa. He signed with Premier Soccer League team SuperSport United. During his five years there, he played 101 games. He helped the team win two MTN 8 trophies and two Nedbank Cups. The club's chief executive called him "one of our all-time great midfielders and captains."
Return to England with Carlisle United
In August 2020, Dean came back to English football. He joined League Two club Carlisle United. He wanted to be closer to his family after his daughter was born. His manager praised him as a very smart footballer.
Non-League Football
After a short time at Altrincham, Dean joined Warrington Rylands 1906 in January 2022. He has continued to play for them.
Playing for South Africa
Dean Furman first got called up to play for the South Africa national team in 2008. He made his first official appearance in 2012 against Brazil. He was even named "Man of the Match" in a game against Mozambique.
He played in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which was held in South Africa. He helped his team reach the quarter-finals. In 2014, he became the captain of the national team. This happened after the sad passing of the previous captain, Senzo Meyiwa.
In 2019, Dean played his 50th game for South Africa. This game helped his country qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Fans sometimes called him "mlungu," which means "white person." By 2020, he had played 56 games for South Africa and scored four goals.
Dean's Life Outside Football
Dean Furman is Jewish and has English family roots. He was born in Cape Town, South Africa. When he was five, his family moved to England. He grew up in Edgware in North London.
He studied sports science at Manchester Metropolitan University. Dean is married to Natasha Howarth, and they have a daughter born in 2020. His younger brother, Jake, also plays football and has represented Maccabi GB.
