Early Life and Education
Deborah Ayorinde was born in London, England. Her parents are from Nigeria. She spent her early childhood in London. When she was 8 years old, her family moved to San Jose, California.
In May 2009, Deborah graduated with high honors from Howard University. She studied Film Production there. While at Howard, she won a special award called the Paul Robeson Best Actress award. She earned this for her acting in a short film that she also wrote and directed. This film also won an award for its amazing camera work.
Acting Career Highlights
Deborah Ayorinde has appeared in many popular TV shows and movies. She was in the Netflix Marvel series Luke Cage. She also played Simone in the fun American comedy movie Girls Trip.
In 2019, Deborah starred alongside Cynthia Erivo and Janelle Monáe in Harriet. This movie told the true story of Harriet Tubman, a brave African American who fought against slavery. Deborah also had a role in a season of the HBO series True Detective.
Later in 2019, it was announced that she would join the cast of Them on Amazon Prime. Her acting as Livia "Lucky" Emory in this series received great reviews. She even got a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award for her performance.
In the same year, she joined the movie Fatherhood. This movie became very popular. In June 2021, Fatherhood was the number one movie on Netflix in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Deborah became even more well-known for her work on the ITV series Riches. This show started in 2022 and was very popular. Audiences loved its story, which focused on the experiences of black British families.
