Deckers is a small, quiet place in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
Deckers is located along the South Platte River. This river is very popular for outdoor activities like fly-fishing.
History of Deckers
The community of Deckers got its start in the 1890s. A man named Stephen Decker built a general store there. He later added a saloon, which is like a restaurant and bar.
At first, he called the settlement "Daffodil." But because of the natural springs in the area, he decided to open a place called Deckers Mineral Springs and Resort. That's how the name "Deckers" came to be!
The Hayman Fire
In June 2002, Deckers gained national attention. A very large forest fire, known as the Hayman Fire, burned thousands of acres of land nearby. This fire happened on the edges of the Denver metro area.
Life in Deckers
Even though Deckers is a small community, it has a postal address. The U.S. Post Office in Sedalia (ZIP Code 80135) handles mail for Deckers.
Summer Camp Fun
In March 2006, the National Ramah Commission announced exciting news. They planned to open a summer camp in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. They bought a large piece of land, about 360 acres, right in Deckers.
This camp is called Ramah in the Rockies. It has been a popular summer camp since it first opened in the summer of 2010. Kids can go there for fun and learning in the mountains.
