Island Location and Size

This island is found in the big Atlantic Ocean. It's quite close to another island called Scariff Island, only about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) away. Deenish Island is also about 6.1 kilometers (3.8 miles) from the mainland, near a place called Hogs Head.

History of Deenish Island

Even though Deenish Island is empty now, people used to live there a long time ago. It was once known by a slightly different name, Dinish.

Past Life on the Island

Back in 1837, three families lived on Deenish Island. They mostly made their living by raising cattle. These animals would graze, or eat grass, all over the island. The island provided a home and food for their livestock.

Population Changes Over Time

The 1911 census showed that six people were still living on the island at that time. Over the years, the number of people living on Deenish Island changed. Eventually, everyone moved away. By 1996, the island had no residents, and it has remained uninhabited since then.
