History of Del Cerro
Del Cerro became a neighborhood with homes during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.
In 2007, California State University (SDSU) wanted to build homes for its staff on open land in Del Cerro. This land included Adobe Falls, which is a historic landmark. Local groups and the City of San Diego disagreed with this plan. They felt it would harm the open space. The community group, Del Cerro Action Council, worked to protect the area. The legal discussions about this plan are still ongoing.
The area can sometimes have wildfires. Residents work with the city to clear brush from slopes and around homes to help keep everyone safe.
