Delby Powless (born July 3, 1980) is a talented Mohawk lacrosse player. He comes from the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation in Ontario, Canada.

Delby was born in Six Nations, Ontario. He is related to famous lacrosse players: his granduncle was Ross Powless and his cousin was Gaylord Powless. Both of them are in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Delby played for professional teams like the Buffalo Bandits in the National Lacrosse League and the Hamilton Nationals in Major League Lacrosse. In 2003, he won the Tom Longboat Award. This award is given to the best male Aboriginal athlete.

Delby Powless's Lacrosse Journey

Playing in Junior Leagues

Delby Powless started his lacrosse journey at a young age. He played his first season with the Six Nations Jr.B Red Rebels. This was their very first season as a team.

After that, he joined the Six Nations Arrows in the OLA Junior A Lacrosse League. He played for them for the rest of his junior career.

In 1998, Delby had an amazing year. He scored 122 points, which was his highest ever. He helped the Arrows win their league championship that year. He also received the "Dean McLeod Award" for being the most valuable player in the playoffs.

Delby finished his junior career with a total of 686 points. This includes both regular season and playoff games. He is still the Six Nations Arrows' all-time leading scorer.

College Lacrosse Career

Delby played college lacrosse for two years at Herkimer County Community College. Then, he played for two more years at Rutgers University.

He was the top scorer for the Scargers Knights in both 2003 and 2004. At Herkimer, he was named an "All-American" twice. This means he was recognized as one of the best players in the country. He also earned this honor twice at Rutgers.

Delby later earned his bachelor's degree from Bellevue University.

Playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL)

In 2004, Delby Powless was the very first player chosen in the NLL entry draft. He was picked by the Buffalo Bandits.

He played for the Buffalo Bandits for five years. During his time there, he scored a total of 201 points. He helped the Bandits win their first NLL championship in many years in the 2008 season.

Playing in Major League Lacrosse (MLL)

After his time in the NLL, Delby played for the Toronto Nationals. He played with them in 2009 and 2010.

He helped the Toronto Nationals win a Major League Lacrosse Championship in 2009.

International Lacrosse Games

Delby Powless also played for the Iroquois Nationals indoor team. He played in the first-ever World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in 2003. He played again in 2007. In both tournaments, the Iroquois team won silver medals.

At the 2003 World Championships, Delby was named to the All-World Team. He was the top scorer in the entire tournament.

He also played on the Iroquois Nationals Under-19 team. They won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Adelaide, Australia. Delby was the top scorer for the Iroquois team and fourth overall in the tournament.

Delby also played for the Iroquois Nationals field lacrosse team. He played in the 2002 World Lacrosse Championship and again in 2006. The Iroquois team finished in fourth place in both tournaments.
