Delby Powless was born on July 3, 1980. He is a talented Mohawk lacrosse player from the Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation in Ontario, Canada. Delby comes from a family of famous lacrosse players. His granduncle, Ross Powless, and cousin, Gaylord Powless, are both in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Delby played professionally for teams like the Buffalo Bandits in the National Lacrosse League and the Hamilton Nationals in Major League Lacrosse. In 2003, he was recognized as the top male Aboriginal athlete, winning the Tom Longboat Award.

Delby Powless: A Lacrosse Star
Delby Powless had an amazing career in lacrosse, playing at different levels from junior leagues to professional and international teams. He was known for his skill and ability to score.
Junior Lacrosse Journey
Delby started his junior lacrosse career playing for the Six Nations Jr.B Red Rebels. This was their very first season. After that, he joined the Six Nations Arrows in the OLA Junior A Lacrosse League.
In 1998, Delby had his best junior year, scoring 122 points. He helped the Arrows win their league championship. For his outstanding play in the playoffs, he received the "Dean McLeod Award" as the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Delby ended his junior career with 686 points, making him one of the top scorers in Canadian Junior A lacrosse history. He is still the Six Nations Arrows' all-time leading scorer.
College Lacrosse Achievements
Delby continued his lacrosse journey in college. He played for two years at Herkimer County Community College. Then, he spent two years at Rutgers University. At both colleges, he was a star player.
At Herkimer, he was named an All-American twice. At Rutgers, he was the top scorer for the Scarlet Knights in both 2003 and 2004. He also earned All-American honors twice there. Delby later got his bachelor's degree from Bellevue University.
National Lacrosse League (NLL) Career
In 2004, Delby Powless was the very first player chosen in the NLL entry draft. He was picked by the Buffalo Bandits. He played for the Bandits for five years.
During his time with the Bandits, Delby scored a total of 201 points. He was a key player in helping the Bandits win their first NLL championship in many years, in the 2008 season.
Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Success
After his time in the NLL, Delby played for the Toronto Nationals in Major League Lacrosse. He played with them in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, he helped the Toronto Nationals win the Major League Lacrosse Championship.
International Lacrosse Play
Delby also represented his nation on the world stage. He played for the Iroquois Nationals indoor team. He competed in the first-ever World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in 2003 and again in 2007. In both tournaments, the Iroquois team won silver medals.
At the 2003 World Championships, Delby was named to the All-World Team. He was also the top scorer in the entire tournament. Delby also played for the Iroquois Nationals U-19 team, winning a bronze medal at the World Championships in Australia. He led his team in scoring there too. He also played for the Iroquois Nationals field lacrosse team in the 2002 World Lacrosse Championship and the 2006 World Lacrosse Championship.
