Demetrious Cox (born April 20, 1994) is an American who used to play professional football. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). Demetrious played college football for the Michigan State Spartans. He later signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017.
Early Life and High School Sports
Demetrious Cox grew up in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. He played high school football at Jeannette Senior High School. He was a starter on the team for three years.
In 2010, during his junior year, he threw for 698 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also ran for 621 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. On defense, he made 55 tackles and caught 3 interceptions.
His senior year in 2011 was even better. He threw for 910 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,263 yards and 22 touchdowns. He had 63 tackles and 3 interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. His team had a great record of 12 wins and 1 loss. They even made it to the state championship game.
Because of his amazing skills, Demetrious was named an All-American by several sports groups. He also played basketball at Jeannette High School. He scored over 1,000 points in his high school basketball career. In his junior year, he averaged 18 points per game and earned All-Conference honors.
College Football Career
Demetrious Cox went to Michigan State University. He played football for the Spartans from 2013 to 2016. In 2012, he was "redshirted," which means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. This allowed him to gain an extra year of eligibility.
- 2013 Season: He played in 14 games. He made 3 solo tackles and helped with 3 other tackles.
- 2014 Season: He played in 13 games and started 1 game as a cornerback. He had 19 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles, and 1 sack. He also broke up 2 passes and caused one fumble.
- 2015 Season: This was a big year for him. He started all 14 games. He made 48 solo tackles and 31 assisted tackles. He broke up 7 passes and caught 3 interceptions. He also recovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. He played both cornerback and safety. Coaches named him Third-team All-Big Ten.
- 2016 Season: He started all 10 games he played as a free safety. He had 21 solo tackles and 34 assisted tackles. He broke up 5 passes and caught 1 interception, which he also returned for a touchdown. He was one of the team captains that year.
Overall, Demetrious played in 51 college games, starting 25 of them. He finished with 91 solo tackles, 75 assisted tackles, 1 sack, and 14 pass breakups. He also had 4 interceptions, caused 1 fumble, and recovered 2 fumbles, scoring 2 touchdowns. He earned his bachelor's degree in social science in May 2016.

Demetrious was not chosen in the 2017 NFL Draft. However, he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as a free agent on May 5, 2017. He was later released by the Bengals.
On September 3, 2017, the Carolina Panthers picked him up. He was placed on injured reserve in October 2017 due to an ankle injury. The Panthers released him in August 2018.
He then joined the practice squad of the Arizona Cardinals in September 2018 but was released a month later.
In October 2018, Demetrious returned to the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad. He signed a new contract with them at the end of 2018. However, he was released again in August 2019.
In 2020, Demetrious Cox was drafted by the New York Guardians in the 2020 XFL Draft. The XFL league stopped operations in April 2020, which ended his contract there.
His last professional team was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL (Canadian Football League). He signed with them in January 2021 but was released in June 2021.
