Early Life and Rising Star
Demetrius grew up in Freeport, Grand Bahama, where he went to Tabernacle Baptist Christian Academy. He showed great promise in running from a young age.
Breaking Records
In March 2011, Demetrius made a big splash. He broke the Bahamian national record for the indoor 400m. The old record was 45.78 seconds, held by another great Bahamian runner, Chris Brown. Demetrius ran it in an incredible 45.33 seconds at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. This showed everyone he was a serious competitor.
First Big Medals
Before his Olympic success, Demetrius won a silver medal in the 400m at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. This was a major achievement on the world stage.
Olympic Glory in London
The 2012 Summer Olympics in London were a highlight of Demetrius's career.
400m Finalist
He competed in the individual 400m race and made it to the final, finishing seventh. This is a huge accomplishment, as only the fastest runners in the world reach the Olympic final.

The most memorable moment was with the Bahamas 4 × 400 metres relay team. Demetrius, along with Chris Brown, Michael Mathieu, and Ramon Miller, worked together perfectly. They beat the strong team from the USA, who were expected to win. Their victory earned them a gold medal and set a new national record for the Bahamas!
A Medal's Journey
In 2013, Demetrius's Olympic gold medal was taken from his car in Bradenton, Florida. Luckily, the local police were able to find it and return it to him. This was a happy ending to a worrying situation.
