Denbigh Park Boat Ramp facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Denbigh Park Boat Ramp is a fun park located in the Denbigh area of Newport News, Virginia, USA. It's often just called Denbigh Park. This park is looked after by the Newport News Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. It covers about 13.3 acres (which is about 53,800 square meters) and is found at the very end of Denbigh Boulevard.

What Can You Do at Denbigh Park?

Denbigh Park offers several cool activities for visitors. It's a great spot if you love being outdoors. You can launch a boat, go fishing, or enjoy a peaceful walk.

Boat Ramp and Parking

The main attraction at Denbigh Park is its boat ramp. This ramp lets you put your boat directly into the Warwick River. The Warwick River then flows into the larger James River. The park has a big parking lot with plenty of space. It can hold many trucks and boat trailers. The boat ramp and parking area are open every day from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Hiking Trail Adventure

Denbigh Park also has a short hiking trail. Both ends of this trail connect back to the park's parking lot. Walking the entire trail usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Along the way, you'll see beautiful marshland. This area is common in the park's quiet neighborhood. Because the park is in a calm residential spot, you might see more wildlife here. You can often spot small fish and even crabs in a stream that the trail crosses. Like most hiking trails in Newport News, this one is open from sunrise to sunset.

Fishing Pier Fun

If you enjoy fishing, Denbigh Park has a small fishing pier. This pier is big enough for about a dozen people to fish at the same time. From the pier, you can fish in the saltwater part of the Warwick River. This river is a branch of the James River.
