Hyla rubicundula Reinhardt and Lütken, 1862 |
Dendropsophus rubicundulus (also known as the Lagoa Santa treefrog) is a small frog that belongs to the Hylidae family. This family includes many different kinds of treefrogs.
About the Lagoa Santa Treefrog
This special frog was first described in 1862 by scientists Johannes Theodor Reinhardt and Christian Frederik Lütken. It is known for living in certain parts of South America.
Where it Lives
The Lagoa Santa treefrog is mostly found in Brazil and Bolivia. While some older reports suggested it might live in Paraguay, those were likely other similar frog species. However, it's still possible that this frog could be found in Paraguay too.
Its Home and Habits
This treefrog is very common in Brazil. It lives in a unique natural area called the cerrado ecoregion. The cerrado is a large area of grasslands and savannas. It has many different types of plants and animals.
These frogs love to live near water. You can often find them among plants that grow near ponds, pools, or lagoons. They prefer open, sunny areas. Sadly, the Lagoa Santa treefrog is facing a challenge. Its natural home is slowly disappearing due to habitat loss.
