Devon Kershaw (born December 20, 1982) is a Canadian retired cross-country skier. He competed in the sport from 2005 to 2018. Devon grew up in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He tried many sports before choosing to focus on cross-country skiing. One of his biggest achievements was winning a World Champion title in 2011. He also finished second overall in the World Cup standings in 2011/2012.

Early Life and Skiing Start
Devon Kershaw grew up in Sudbury, a city in Northern Ontario. His parents, Will and Maureen, helped him love nature and an active life. Devon enjoyed many sports when he was young. He played hockey, volleyball, badminton, and tennis. He also ran in races.
As a young skier, he raced for Laurentian Nordic in Sudbury. He took part in three World Junior Championships. These were in 2000, 2001, and 2002. He also won 18 National Junior Medals. When he became a senior racer, he moved to Canmore, Alberta. This is where Canada's National Ski Team trains. He moved there to follow his dreams in skiing.
Devon's Skiing Career Highlights
Devon Kershaw had many great moments in his skiing career. In 2005, he finished 14th in the individual sprint at the World Championships. This was held in Oberstdorf.
He made history in 2006 by becoming the first Canadian male cross-country skier to win a medal in the sprint category. He placed third in the Freestyle Sprint in Borlänge, Sweden. Later that year, he placed second in a 15-kilometre classic race in Finland. This was the best finish for a Canadian male in over 10 years at a World Cup event.
In the first ever Tour de Ski in 2006–2007, Devon came in second in the first stage. This was a Freestyle Sprint. Sadly, he got sick and could not finish the Tour.
In 2009, Devon and the Canadian team achieved their highest placing ever. They finished sixth in the 4 x 10 km relay at the World Championships in Liberec.
At the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Devon had his best individual finish. He came in fifth place in the 50 km race. He also finished fourth in the team sprint with his teammate Alex Harvey. These were the best results ever for Canadian men in an Olympic cross-country event.
In the 2011 Tour de Ski, Devon won one of the sprint stages. He beat famous skiers like Dario Cologna and Petter Northug. A big moment came at the Oslo 2011 World Championship. Devon and Alex Harvey won the gold medal in the team sprint! This was Canada's first ever gold medal in cross-country skiing at the World Championships. It was also their second medal ever, after Sara Renner's bronze in 2005.
Devon had his best season in 2011/2012. He finished second overall in the World Cup standings. He stood on the podium six times in World Cup races. He earned two gold medals, one silver, and three bronze. In the 2012 Tour de Ski, he finished fourth overall. This was the best a Canadian had ever done in that event.

Personal Life
Devon is the oldest of three children. His sister, Linnaea, studies journalism in Vancouver. His brother, Sean, studies Art History in Montreal. After his skiing career, Devon wants to go back to school. He plans to study medicine. His goal is to become a doctor who specializes in sports medicine.
Devon is married to Norwegian cross-country skier Kristin Størmer Steira. They have been together since December 2012 and got married in July 2015. They have one daughter, who was born in 2017.
