Richard "Dick" DeVos Jr. was born on October 21, 1955. He is an American businessman, author, and former politician. His father, Richard DeVos, helped start the company Amway. Dick DeVos was the CEO of Amway from 1993 to 2002.
In 2006, DeVos ran for Governor of Michigan but did not win. He is married to Betsy DeVos, who used to be the U.S. Secretary of Education.

Early Life and Family Connections
Dick DeVos was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His parents were Helen June and Richard Marvin DeVos. He went to public schools in Forest Hills, Michigan.
Growing Up with Amway
DeVos was involved in his family's business, Amway, from a young age. He remembered the offices being in their home's basement. As kids, he and his brother Doug helped at Amway's yearly meetings. They greeted guests and even gave product demonstrations. DeVos said it was like a "Junior Achievement atmosphere" within the company.

Leading Amway's Growth

In 1993, DeVos left the Orlando Magic to return to Amway. He became the company's president, taking over from his father. Under Dick DeVos, Amway grew its business to over 50 countries.
