Diego's Early Life and Family
Diego Loyzaga was born in San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines. His mother is actress Teresa Loyzaga, and his father is actor Cesar Montano.
Diego comes from a large family. He has a half-brother named Joseph Dizon from his mother's previous marriage. He also has three half-sisters, Angelina, Samantha, and Francheska Cruz, from his father's marriage to Sunshine Cruz. Additionally, he has half-siblings named Angela and Christian Angelo Manhilot from his father's first wife.
Diego's family has many famous members. His grandfather was the legendary Filipino basketball player Carlos Loyzaga. His aunt is actress Bing Loyzaga, and his uncles, Chito Loyzaga and Joey Loyzaga, were also well-known basketball players in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
In May 2000, Diego moved to Sydney, Australia, with his mother and half-brother.
Diego's Education Journey
Before moving to Sydney, Diego attended preschool at Marcellis School in Antipolo. In Sydney, he studied at St. Aidan's Catholic School in Maroubra. He also attended John Forrest School in Perth, Australia.
In 2011, Diego returned to the Philippines to start his acting career. He finished high school at O.B. Montessori Center, Inc. – Greenhills.
Diego's Career in Show Business
Starting His Acting Career (2011–2012)
On March 8, 2011, when Diego was 15 years old, he signed a three-year contract with ABS-CBN, a major TV network. He shared that he chose to enter show business himself.
One of his first big roles was in the popular TV series Mara Clara, where he played Derrick Gonzales. He also appeared in other TV shows, including the talk show Gandang Gabi, Vice!. In September 2011, he joined the youth drama series Growing Up as Jason.
In 2011, Diego was nominated as Amazing Male Newcomer at the Yahoo! Awards Philippines. He also had endorsement deals, like with the clothing brand Bench.
Diego took a short break from acting in 2012 to focus on finishing his high school studies.
Returning to Acting and New Roles (2013–Present)
In May 2013, Diego returned to acting in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK), which is Asia's longest-running drama show. People noticed his improved acting and how well he spoke Tagalog.
After that, he starred in the fantasy-drama series Wansapanataym in an episode called "Petra Paminta." He also had a supporting role in the TV series Mirabella.
In September 2014, Diego appeared in TV5’s Wattpad Presents "Mr. Popular Meets Miss Nobody". He mentioned that he was happy to work with different TV networks.
In January 2015, Diego became one of the new VJs (video jockeys) for MYX, a music channel. He hosted shows like My MYX and MYX Daily Top 10. He also appeared in the daytime show Oh My G! and joined the cast of Forevermore.
On his 21st birthday, May 21, 2016, Diego played the main role of Rommel, a schoolteacher, in an MMK episode called "Pasa" ("Bruise"). His performance received high ratings and many compliments from viewers, who praised his acting skills.
In April 2021, Diego starred in the mystery film "Death of a Girlfriend," directed by Yam Laranas. This movie was based on a true story.
Diego also played Ferdinand "BongBong" Marcos Jr., the son of a former president, in the historical film Maid in Malacañang. In 2023, he reprised the role in Martyr or Murderer.
On May 15, 2024, Diego's film "Isang Gabi" premiered in Quezon City.
