Dino Risi (born December 23, 1916 – died June 7, 2008) was a famous Italian film director. He was known as one of the "masters" of commedia all'italiana, a special type of Italian comedy movie. He worked alongside other great directors like Mario Monicelli and Ettore Scola.

About Dino Risi
Early Life and Education
Dino Risi was born in Milan, Italy. He had two brothers: Fernando, who worked with cameras in movies, and Nelo, who became a director and writer too. When Dino was twelve, he lost his parents and was cared for by family friends. He studied medicine in college. Even though his parents wanted him to be a psychiatrist, Dino chose a different path.
Starting His Film Career
Risi began his journey in cinema by helping other directors. He worked as an assistant for famous people like Mario Soldati and Alberto Lattuada. Later, he started directing his own movies. He helped many actors become stars, including the legendary Sophia Loren and Vittorio Gassman.
His Famous Movies
Dino Risi directed many popular films. His 1966 movie, Treasure of San Gennaro, won a Silver Prize at the 5th Moscow International Film Festival.

- Poor, But Handsome (Poveri ma belli). This movie was so popular that he directed two sequels!
- A Difficult Life (Una vita difficile)
- The Easy Life (Il sorpasso)
- Opiate '67 (I Mostri), also known as 15 From Rome
- Scent of a Woman (Profumo di Donna). This film was so good that it was remade in 1992. The remake starred Al Pacino and was directed by Martin Brest.
Awards and Legacy
In 2002, Dino Risi received a very special award. He was given the Golden Lion – Honorary Award at the Venice Film Festival. This award celebrated all of his amazing work throughout his life.
Two of his films, Il giovedì and Il commissario Lo Gatto, were shown again at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. They were part of a special collection focusing on Italian comedy.
Dino Risi passed away on June 7, 2008, in Rome. He was 91 years old. He left behind two sons, Claudio and Marco Risi, who also became film directors.
