Djiwali facts for kids
The Djiwarli people, also known as Jiwarli, are an Aboriginal Australian group. They come from the Pilbara region in Western Australia.
Language of the Djiwarli
The Jiwarli people speak a language called Mantharta. Their language is one of four main types, or dialects. The other dialects are spoken by the Thiin, Warriyangka, and Tharrkari peoples.
Djiwarli Traditional Lands
The Djiwarli people's traditional lands were very large. A researcher named Norman Tindale estimated them to be about 4,400 square kilometers (1,700 square miles).
These lands included the start of the Henry River and Yannarie rivers. They stretched southeast from mountains like Mt Hamlet and Mt Florry. Their lands reached all the way to the Lyons River. To the northeast, their land reached near the Ashburton River.
