The Dolphin Browser is a special internet browser made for phones and tablets. It works on devices that use the Android and iOS operating systems. A company called MoboTap Inc developed it. Dolphin Browser was one of the first browsers for Android that let you use cool multi-touch gestures. These are like pinching to zoom or swiping with multiple fingers. This browser uses the main browser engine that's already built into your device.

Cool Features of Dolphin Browser

Dolphin Browser has many helpful features for browsing the internet.

  • It understands most web standards, which means it can show websites correctly.
  • You can use tabbed browsing, which lets you open many websites at once. This is like having multiple pages open in a folder.
  • It has voice controls, so you can tell it what to do using your voice.
  • You can also use touch gestures. For example, you might draw a shape on the screen to go to a favorite website.
  • Dolphin Browser can save parts of websites. This means you can look at them later, even if you don't have an internet connection.
  • It can also keep your browsing data, like bookmarks, in sync across different devices you own.
  • On Android devices, you can add browser add-ons. These are like small programs that add extra features to the browser.

Different Versions of Dolphin Browser

Both the iOS and Android versions of Dolphin Browser are proprietary software. This means the company owns the software, and you can't change its code. Sometimes, you can buy extra features inside the app.

An updated version of Dolphin Browser was made for Android 2.0 and newer devices. In May 2012, a test version called Dolphin Browser Beta was released. It had a new engine called Jetpack, which helped with HTML5 websites.

In December 2013, a special version called Dolphin Zero was released. This version was designed to be very private. It claimed to automatically delete your browsing history and other data.

Keeping Your Browsing Private

In October 2011, some people worried about privacy when using Dolphin Browser. It was found that all the website addresses (URLs) loaded in Dolphin HD were being sent to a faraway computer server. This information was sent in a way that was easy to read. Some experts said this was a problem for privacy. Luckily, the company quickly fixed this issue in the very next update to the browser.
