Domaine de Canton (liqueur) facts for kids
Domaine de Canton is a special ginger-flavored drink called a liqueur. It is made in France and has been around since 2007. Before that, an older version called Canton was made in China from 1992 to 1997.
The First Ginger Liqueur
The first ginger liqueur was called The Original Canton Delicate Ginger Liqueur. It was made in a place called Doumen, which is in Zhuhai, China. This area is close to Macau. The drink was made from 1992 until 1997.
The original recipe used six different kinds of ginger. It also had ginseng, special herbs, fine spirits, brandy, and honey. It came in fancy glass bottles of different sizes. This drink was sold for a few years, from 1992 to 1995, and then it was officially stopped after 1997.
A New Beginning: Domaine de Canton
In 2007, a person named John Cooper decided to bring back the idea of a ginger liqueur. His father had helped bring the first version to the United States. John created a new ginger liqueur called Canton Ginger & Cognac Liqueur.
This new drink is made in Jarnac, France. It has a new recipe and looks golden. The bottle is shaped like a bamboo stalk, which is quite unique!
The new recipe includes sweet syrup made from special Chinese baby ginger. It also has fine Cognac, a neutral spirit, sweet orange blossom honey from Provence, and vanilla.
The drink was first released in New York City in August 2007. By 2008, its name changed again to Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur.
