Dominique Thorne is an American actress. She was born on November 5, 1997. Dominique started her acting career in films like If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) and Judas and the Black Messiah (2021).
In 2022, she became well-known for playing Riri Williams / Ironheart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She first appeared as this character in the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She played the role again in the 2025 Disney+ miniseries Ironheart. In 2024, she also starred in the film Freaky Tales.

Early Life and Education
Dominique Thorne was born in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents, Nerissa and Navie Guy, came from Trinidad. She has two younger brothers. Later, her family moved to Newark, Delaware.
Studying Acting
Dominique went to the Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS) in Manhattan. There, she focused on studying dramatic theater. During her last year of high school, she won two important awards in 2015. These were the Young Arts Award in Spoken Theater and the U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts. The White House gives the Presidential Scholar award each year.
College Life
After high school, Dominique applied to many universities for both academic and art programs. She chose to attend Cornell University. In 2018, she joined the Mu Gamma chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She earned her bachelor's degree in Human Development in May 2019. She also studied Inequality Studies. Before graduating, she became a member of the Sphinx Head senior honors society. As of 2020, Dominique and her family live in Atlanta.
Acting Career
Dominique Thorne started her film career in 2018. Her first movie role was Shelia Hunt in If Beale Street Could Talk. This film was based on a novel by James Baldwin. In 2021, she played Judy Harmon in the movie Judas and the Black Messiah. Judy Harmon was a member of the Black Panthers.
Joining the Marvel Universe
In 2016, Dominique auditioned for the role of Shuri in the 2018 Marvel movie Black Panther. She even did screen tests with actor Chadwick Boseman. However, the role eventually went to Letitia Wright.
Later, in 2020, Dominique was chosen to play Riri Williams / Ironheart. This role was for the Disney+ TV series Ironheart. Because of her earlier auditions with Marvel Studios, she got this part without needing to audition again. She first appeared as Riri in the 2022 movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Producer Nate Moore mentioned that when Marvel Studios was looking for Riri Williams, Dominique was their "first and only call."
