Letitia Michelle Wright (born on October 31, 1993) is a talented actress from Guyana and Britain. She started her acting journey with small parts in TV shows like Top Boy and Doctor Who. She even got a nomination for an Primetime Emmy Award for her role in Black Mirror.
Letitia became widely known for playing Shuri in the 2018 superhero movie Black Panther. This role helped her win an NAACP Image Award and a SAG Award. She played Shuri again in other popular Marvel movies, including Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). In 2019, she received the BAFTA Rising Star Award, which is a special award for up-and-coming actors.

Letitia Michelle Wright was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on October 31, 1993. When she was eight years old, her family moved to London, England. She went to Northumberland Park Community School there.
In 2023, the University of Guyana honored her with a special degree called an Honorary Doctorate in Arts and Letters.
Career Highlights

Letitia Wright loved acting in school plays. She was inspired to become a professional actress after watching the 2006 movie Akeelah and the Bee. She felt that Keke Palmer's acting in that movie really connected with her. At 16, she joined the Identity School of Acting to learn more about acting.
In 2011, she had a recurring role in the TV series Top Boy. She also appeared in the movie My Brother the Devil in 2012. Her first main role in a movie was in Urban Hymn (2015). This film helped her get noticed in Hollywood. She also appeared in an episode of Doctor Who called Face the Raven. The next year, she started a recurring role in the TV show Humans. In 2017, Letitia starred in the Black Mirror episode "Black Museum". Her performance earned her a nomination for an Primetime Emmy Award.
Becoming Shuri in Black Panther
Letitia Wright became famous worldwide for her role as Shuri in the 2018 movie Black Panther. Shuri is the smart and inventive sister of King T'Challa, the ruler of Wakanda. This movie was part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She acted alongside stars like Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, and Lupita Nyong'o.
For her work in Black Panther, Letitia won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance. She played Shuri again in Avengers: Infinity War, which came out two months later. In 2018, she also appeared in Steven Spielberg's movie Ready Player One.
In 2018, Letitia also performed in a play called The Convert at London's Young Vic Theatre. The play was set in 1895 and told the story of a young girl named Jekesai who is saved from a forced marriage by a missionary.
Later Roles and Awards
In 2019, Letitia Wright won the prestigious BAFTA Rising Star Award. In April 2019, she appeared with Donald Glover and Rihanna in Guava Island, a short musical film. She then returned as Shuri in Avengers: Endgame.
Letitia also appeared in the 2022 movie Death on the Nile. She was also cast in Steve McQueen's mini-series Small Axe. In the first episode, Mangrove, she played British Black Panther leader Altheia Jones-LeCointe. This role earned her nominations for "Best Supporting Actress."
In 2020, it was announced that Letitia would play twin sisters June and Jennifer Gibbons in the movie The Silent Twins. This film was based on a book from 1986 and was released in September 2022.
Letitia returned as Shuri for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which came out in November 2022. In this movie, Shuri becomes the new Black Panther after the death of T'Challa. This was Letitia's first main role in a film. The movie was made to honor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020. During filming in 2021, Letitia had a motorcycle accident and fractured her shoulder. Production had to pause while she recovered.
Personal Life
Letitia Wright has spoken openly about her struggles with depression. She shared in 2018 that when she first experienced depression at age 20, she was going through a difficult time. Letitia credits her Christian faith with helping her overcome depression. She found her faith after attending a Bible study meeting for actors in London. To focus on her recovery and faith, she even turned down some film roles. She explained that she needed a break from acting to discover her relationship with God.
