The EE British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Rising Star Award is a special prize. It celebrates amazing new actors and actresses. This award is given to young talents who are just starting to make a big name for themselves in movies or TV shows.
The five actors nominated for this award can be from anywhere in the world. Their gender does not matter, and it doesn't matter if they are famous from TV, movies, or both. Experts at BAFTA choose the nominees. But the exciting part is that the winner is chosen by you! People vote for their favorite rising star using text messages, the internet, or phone calls. This award has been sponsored by different companies over the years. It was sponsored by Orange UK until 2012, and now EE sponsors it.

How the Award Started
This award was created to remember a very important person named Mary Selway. She passed away in 2004. Mary Selway was a famous casting director. This means she was the person who helped choose actors for movies and TV shows. She helped many new actors become famous stars. The Rising Star Award keeps her spirit alive by supporting new talent.
The very first person to win this award was James McAvoy in 2006. Some of the winners have been from other countries, like Eva Green, Shia LaBeouf, and Kristen Stewart. The actor who currently holds the award is David Jonsson, who won in 2024.
