Bukky Bakray, born in 2002, is a talented British actress and writer. She became famous for her very first movie role in the film Rocks in 2019. When she was just 18 years old, Bukky made history! She became the youngest person ever to win the BAFTA Rising Star Award. She was also one of the youngest actresses nominated for the Best Actress in a Leading Role. In 2021, she was even featured on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, which highlights young, successful people.

Early Life and Education

Bukky Bakray was born in 2002 in Hackney, a part of east London. Her parents are Christian and originally from Nigeria. She grew up in a neighborhood called Lower Clapton. This area is actually very close to where her famous movie Rocks was filmed!

Bukky has three brothers and one sister. Her sister lives in South Africa. For her schooling, Bukky attended Clapton Girls' Academy and Cardinal Pole Catholic School. She also joined the RADA Youth Company. This is a special program for young people interested in acting. She also trained at Theatre Peckham through their Originate Actor Training programme.

Acting Career Highlights

Bukky Bakray was discovered when she was only 15 years old. She was still at school when director Sarah Gavron found her. Sarah Gavron then cast Bukky in the main role of her film Rocks. This was Bukky's very first acting job, and it launched her career!

In 2021, Bukky started acting on television. She played a character named Bless in the BBC One series You Don't Know Me. She also wrote an essay for a book called Black Joy. In 2023, she took on more exciting roles. She played Kim in the Apple TV+ series Liaison. She also starred as Dione in the Netflix horror film The Strays alongside Ashley Madekwe. That same year, Bukky performed in a play called Sleepova at the Bush Theatre in London.

Bukky has an upcoming role in a film called Self-Charm. This movie is directed by Ella Greenwood.
