About the BAFTA Awards
The BAFTA awards recognize excellence in film. They celebrate the hard work of actors, directors, writers, and many other talented people who create movies. The awards are a big night for the film industry, bringing together stars and filmmakers.
How Winners Are Chosen
The journey to the awards began on January 9, 2026, when the longlists (initial lists of films considered) were announced. The final nominees were revealed on January 27, 2026, by David Jonsson and Aimee Lou Wood. The winners were then announced during the exciting ceremony on February 22, 2026.
The action thriller film One Battle After Another was a big contender. It received the most nominations with fourteen. This film also won the most awards, taking home six prizes! The movie Sinners received thirteen nominations and won three awards. Hamnet and Marty Supreme each had eleven nominations. Hamnet made history as the most-nominated film directed by a woman at the BAFTAs. Sinners also became the most-nominated film by a Black director in BAFTA history.

The Awards Ceremony
The ceremony was a grand event at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Actor Alan Cumming was the host for the evening. The show was broadcast on BBC One and streamed on iPlayer in the United Kingdom. In the United States, the E! network aired the ceremony.
Performances and Guests
During the show, there were exciting musical performances. The singing voices of Huntrix from the Netflix animated musical film KPop Demon Hunters performed their song "Golden". British singer and songwriter Jessie Ware also performed a song called "The Way We Were" during a special segment. This segment remembered people from the film industry who had passed away.
William, Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales attended the ceremony. It was the Princess's first time at the event since 2023.
British Talent in the Spotlight
There was some discussion about the number of British actors nominated in the main acting categories. For example, Robert Aramayo was the only British actor nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role. There were no British actresses nominated in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, though Irish actress Jessie Buckley was nominated. In the supporting roles, Peter Mullan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and Wunmi Mosaku, Carey Mulligan, and Emily Watson were nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Remembering Film Legends
The "In Memoriam" segment honored film industry members who passed away. It featured a montage of their images set to the song "The Way We Were", performed by Jessie Ware.
