The BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film is a very special prize given each year to celebrate the best movies made in the United Kingdom. It's like a gold medal for amazing British filmmaking! The award is presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, often called BAFTA.

This award started a long time ago, in 1947, to honor films from that year. It was given out every year until 1968. Then, for more than 20 years, there wasn't a specific award just for British films. But don't worry, it came back in 1992!

The award used to be called the Alexander Korda Award for Best British Film. It's still named after the famous filmmaker Alexander Korda. Today, it's known as "Outstanding British Film." It celebrates movies that are super creative, original, and show new ideas in British filmmaking.

To be considered for this award, a film needs to have a lot of creative input from people who are British. This includes directors, writers, and producers. These talented individuals must either be British citizens or have lived in the UK for at least ten years.

In the lists below, you'll see the winners and nominees. The films and people who won have their names in bold with a gold background. The years shown are when the films were released, not when the award ceremony happened. The ceremony always takes place the year after the films are released.
