The BAFTA Award for Best Sound is a special prize given to movies by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). This award celebrates the amazing work of people who create and mix all the sounds you hear in a film. Think about the exciting music, the clear dialogue, and all the cool sound effects – like explosions, footsteps, or even the quiet rustle of leaves! These sound experts are called sound designers, sound editors, and sound mixers. They make sure the sound helps tell the story and makes the movie feel real. This award has been given out every year since 1969 at the British Academy Film Awards.
The current winners for the 2025 film F1 are Gareth John, Al Nelson, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Gary A. Rizzo and Juan Peralta.

Understanding the Best Sound Award
Sound in Film: A Quick Look
Sound is a super important part of any movie! It helps create the mood, makes action scenes exciting, and lets you hear what characters are saying. Without great sound, a movie might not feel real or exciting. Sound teams work hard to record clear dialogue, add special sound effects, and mix everything together perfectly with the music. Their goal is to make sure the sound helps tell the story and pulls you right into the film's world.
How Winners Are Chosen
Each year, many amazing films are released, and their sound teams hope to be recognized. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has a special group of experts who watch and listen to these films very carefully. They look for movies that have the best sound design, editing, and mixing.
First, a few films are chosen as "nominees." These are the films that the experts think did an outstanding job. Then, from these nominees, one film is selected as the winner. The winner is the film that the judges believe had the most impressive and effective sound work for that year. In the lists below, the winners are always shown in bold with a gold background.
