The BAFTA Award for Best Sound is a special prize given out each year by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. This award celebrates the amazing work of people who make movies sound great. These talented folks are called sound designers, sound editors, sound engineers, and sound mixers. They are the ones who create all the sounds you hear in a film, from quiet whispers to huge explosions! The award has been given out since 1969.
In the lists below, you'll see the names and films that won the award in bold with a gold background. The other names are the nominees who were also considered for the award. The year listed is when the movie was released, not when the award ceremony happened (which is always the next year).

What is Film Sound?
Sound in movies is super important! It helps tell the story, makes you feel emotions, and brings the film to life. Imagine watching a scary movie without any spooky sounds, or a car chase without the roar of engines!
There are different jobs involved in making film sound:
- Sound Designers think about all the sounds a movie needs. They create unique sounds that fit the film's world.
- Sound Editors put all the different sound pieces together. They make sure the dialogue, music, and sound effects are in the right places.
- Sound Engineers and Sound Mixers record sounds on set and then balance all the sounds so they blend perfectly. They make sure everything sounds clear and exciting.
