Jessie Buckley (born December 28, 1989) is an Irish actress and singer. She has won important awards like a Laurence Olivier Award. She was also nominated for an Academy Award and three BAFTA Awards.
Jessie started her career in 2008 on a TV talent show called I'd Do Anything. She came in second place. After studying at RADA, she appeared in BBC TV shows like War & Peace (2016) and Taboo (2017).
Her first main movie role was in Beast (2017). She became widely known for her role in the musical film Wild Rose (2018). For this role, where she played a country music singer, she was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Early Life and Education
Jessie Buckley was born in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland. Her parents are Marina Cassidy and Tim Buckley. She has one younger brother and three younger sisters.
She went to Ursuline Secondary School, an all-girls school in Thurles, County Tipperary. Her mother worked there as a vocal coach. Jessie performed in many school plays. She even played male lead roles, like Tony in West Side Story and Freddie Trumper in Chess.
Jessie learned to play piano, clarinet, and harp. She reached a high level in all three instruments at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She was also a member of the Tipperary Millennium Orchestra. She attended summer acting and singing workshops. These workshops helped her improve and encouraged her to apply for drama schools in London.
Before she auditioned for I'd Do Anything, two drama schools turned her down. But she kept trying. She later attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and graduated in January 2013.

Starting Out: TV and Theatre (2008–2015)
Jessie Buckley began her career on the TV talent show I'd Do Anything in 2008. The show was looking for a new lead actress to play Nancy in the musical Oliver! in London's West End. Jessie made it to the final on May 31, 2008, and finished in second place.
After the show, Jessie performed at several concerts. She sang at a charity event in County Tipperary. She also performed at a concert celebrating Andrew Lloyd Webber's birthday in Hyde Park, London.
In October 2008, Jessie made her West End debut. She played Anne Egerman in the musical A Little Night Music. This show moved to the Garrick Theatre in London in April 2009.
After graduating from RADA in 2013, Jessie performed in several plays. She played Miranda in The Tempest at Shakespeare's Globe. She also appeared with Jude Law in Henry V in London. In 2015, she played Perdita in The Winter's Tale. This play was shown live in cinemas around the world.

Jessie Buckley's TV career took off in 2016. She played Marya Bolkonskaya in the BBC series War & Peace. Critics praised her performance. She then starred in the drama series Taboo (2017) with Tom Hardy. She also appeared in The Last Post (2017) and The Woman in White (2018).

On April 15, 2022, Jessie and former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler released their first song together. Their album, For All Our Days That Tear the Heart, came out on June 17, 2022. It reached number 23 on the UK Albums Chart and was nominated for the 2022 Mercury Prize.
In 2022, Jessie starred in the film Men. She played a widowed woman on holiday. The film was shown at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. In June 2021, Jessie joined Frances McDormand and Rooney Mara in the film Women Talking. This movie was released in December 2022. In July 2022, Jessie also lent her voice to the animated film Scrooge: A Christmas Carol, which came out on Netflix.
She worked again with Olivia Colman in the comedy Wicked Little Letters. This film was shot in the UK in late 2022. Also in 2022, it was announced that Jessie would star in the film Fingernails. Both films premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
In May 2023, it was announced that Jessie would star with Paul Mescal in the film Hamnet. This movie is based on a popular novel. She also appeared in a play called 'An Oak Tree' in London in May 2025.
Personal Life
As of 2022, Jessie lives in Norfolk, England. She married her husband Freddie, who works in mental health, in mid-2023.
Jessie is an ambassador for The Matt Talbot Community Trust. This organization helps people who are recovering from addiction.
