Making the Movie
In December 2020, it was announced that Frances McDormand would star in the movie. Sarah Polley would write and direct it. In June 2021, more actors joined the cast. These included Ben Whishaw, Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Judith Ivey, Sheila McCarthy, and Michelle McLeod. Hildur Guðnadóttir created the music for the film.
Filming took place in Toronto, Canada. It started on July 19 and ended on September 10, 2021. Special safety steps were taken because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The costume designer, Quita Alfred, bought some fabric and prayer coverings from a real Mennonite community store. She used different colors and patterns for each family in the film. This helped show different traits for each family group.
The Music of Women Talking
Hildur Guðnadóttir composed all the music for the film. Skúli Sverrisson played the guitar solos. The movie's soundtrack was one of the first releases from a new music label called Mercury Classics Soundtrack & Score. The soundtrack was released digitally on December 23, 2022. This was the same day the movie first came out in some theaters. A physical CD version was released later that month. A special song from the score, "Speak Up," was released earlier on November 4, 2022. This song was used in the movie's trailer.
The song "Daydream Believer" by The Monkees was also used in the film. However, this song is not included on the official soundtrack album.
